How do I know that my Application Demo is ready to go?
If you have followed the guidelines then the application should be ready to go! However, please listen back to your application before sending it into us! For example, you might have a technical problem which may affect the quality of the application including your microphone. Therefore, before sending it into us, make sure you've included all the content that we're looking for, and make sure the application is clear with no technical problems. If you have any further questions about this, feel free to contact one of the Station Managers/Supervisors, and Good Luck!
I have a headset which all my friends tell me sounds great! Can't I just use that?
We recommend using a condenser mic, as these provide the best quality for radio. If you are unsure about your microphone, record yourself saying something with software such as audacity (hey it's free!) and listen back to it in comparison to what you hear on TFM as that is the level of microphone quality we are looking for.
When do the applications close? & Do I have enough time to apply again?
Honestly, this one we get asked a lot! The answer in short is we don't know. We haven't picked a date out to close applications. We normally decide about 3 days before the date we choose that we are going to close applications as we just keep them open until we feel that we have enough new talent.
What if I am a presenter for another station?
You can present at other stations, all that matters to us is that you can commit to the minimum requirement of 2 hours per week.
I haven't received an email from BigRigFM yet. What do I do?
Generally applications are done within 2 weeks but can take a little longer if we have a lot to process. Although you could potentially have received an email and it is sitting in your spam folder. If you have been waiting 4 or more weeks then contact one of the Station Managers/Supervisors.
What broadcasting software should I use?
This is entirely down to personal choice and what you feel comfortable using, Our only requirement is that it can connect to shoutcast/icecast servers. If this is your first time on radio we would recommend either Mixxx or PlayIt Live. These are both free software, and relatively easy to use.
Do I need a script?
Speak from your heart! The best links come naturally, and you can often get distracted if there is a script you’re trying to keep to. However, if you feel that you're going to have some trouble deciding what to say, It may be worth having some bullet points instead of a word-to-word script.
When do the applications close, and can I apply again if my application is rejected?
Applications will close when all our presenter positions are filled. We will announce a week before the closing date to ensure you have plenty time. If your application is rejected, You must wait 2 weeks before re-applying.
What happens when I click the submit button?
Upon submission, Your application is reviewed by our team. We will listen through your demo and take notes. A decision is then made and you will be contacted via email. If you are successful, all relevant information will be provided. If you didn’t quite make the cut, we will offer you feedback and you may reapply after the 2 week period.
What is the minimum age requirement to join BigRigFM?
There is no real age requirement to join BigRigFM! We recommend 16+ as people are more responsible at that age but any age is fine. (Although due to BigRigFM being an online service we legally cannot accept those under 13).
Do the written questions in my application affect the score?
The written part is a way to show us any previous experience, community knowledge and skills you can bring to our team. In turn, this does affect your score as it allows us to see how you stand out from the other applications!
Should I use jingles in my application?
You are welcome to play personal radio imaging in your demo, however this doesn't affect your score in any way. We would recommend not using radio imaging as it takes up precious time in the demo that you could be using to present.
